Hello, ladies, I have booked a Dec. flight from Kyoto, Japan that has a layover (before I fly home) in Honolulu for approx. 8 hours (9AM-5PM), but I will be tired after the 8 hr flight from Japan, so I hardly plan to paint the town red. I even thought about just resting at the airport hotel, but apparently, it's not very nice.
In my time-sense, it will be around 2AM Toyko time.
Still, I have never been to Hawa'ii and wonder if you have tips. I don't think my big bag will be disgorged from Customs, so I will have no baggage and be fancy free.
I'd like to take the local bus system either to the Pearl Harbor memorial (on one side of the airport, and a bit closer to it) or the hotels at Waikiki (to the South).
I do not like sunshine (skin cancer in my past) and I live near a beach anyhow, but does anyone have suggestions about shopping (ABC stores? Are they good for souvenirs? It will be in mid-Dec. so I am thinking "stocking stuffers.)
Or is there I bus I can take to Waikiki that has a stop for good shopping and a nice lunch? I would head back to the airport probably around 2PM.
Thanks in advance for those of you who know Waikiki and Oahu. I am psyched to go there b/c I hever have gone and my mother took a trip there near the end of her life that she found just magical. I plan to consume or purchase a papaya in her memory.
