We didn't get the full effect either, I think they said 60% it's hazy today which affected visability. It got dim, like twilight. I watched it on tv, no eclipse glasses. I had my window open and it was fun to watch the reactions from the neighbor kids. I don't even know who the kids are but they were with a neighbor and he brought them over to our side of the street, they sat our steps to watch the show. I liked experiencing it through their eyes.

Darker, yes, but not 100% totally, and completely pitch black midnight dark.
@Plaid Pants2 - it got pitch black in Wyoming on TV - pitch black!
Missouri, too, if the T.V was showing it accurately. It was total darkness except for that ring of light.

I had a great grandmother who was a Cherokee Indian (my grandmother that raised me) her Mother. She had newspapers that printed all about it. We all saw it. Don't know what happened to any of it though.
My grandmother (her daughter) was almost 100 when she died. My other grandmother (on my mother's side) was 98 when she died. My mother was 80 when she died but that's because she smoked like a chimney. The Dr said she'd have (his words) 'lived forever if she hadn't smoked'.
So, based on all of that...I might be around...although I hope not...the body breaks down after awhile and I'm more about the quality of life rather than the quantity of life.

I didn't experience it here in New York State, but I watched it on TV and saw it from a few states in its path....It was amazing to see it happen!! The crowds cheered as it became totally dark! A truly wonderful experience to see .... I felt like I was there!!

We had a total eclipse in East Tennessee at 2:30. I had the glasses and went to a friend of mine's to watch it with several other people. One article I read said that you might scream and cry and it would change your life. I certainly didn't feel that way but am very glad I got to see it.

beach-mom wrote:@I did! DS is studying science, so he's really interested. He took lots of pictures. It was cloudy, but we had about 75%. It never got completely dark, but it was weird how still everything was, and still is. Around here - no cars, no kids outside, just really, really quiet. The kitties slept through it!
What amazed me was how fast the sun/moon was moving. It was like it was racing through the skies.
@beach-mom - it did move pretty darn fast across the country once it got started - just amazing stuff.

I was home and had the blinds pulled but I kind of peeked out of them and didn't see it get darker outside. Was I supposed to have those special glasses? I really wanted to see it.

South Carolina here and I second what my neighbor in northern Georgia said in her post---coolest thing I've ever seen.
Did anyone else in the path notice the change in your shadow? It became so sharp; I could see every individual strand of hair on my head in my shadow. So neat! Also, it looked like the sun was setting in the east.....the sky turned that orangey kind of glow. We had some clouds move in but were so fortunate to have them break at the right moments. We were able to see the full progression and totality.
I made a wish. Not sure if that works but it seemed like the best doggone time to do such a thing ![]()
