Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

I know I'm in the minority here, but I can't stand hot dogs unless they are burned to a crisp on a grill and totally covered with ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions and tomatoes.  The same goes for bologna, which I feel is just a flat version of a hot dog.

Man plans. God laughs.

I have not eaten a hotdog since childhood. No junk or fast food for the past 30 years. Will I live longer? Who knows.

Meh, even if they take a few years off my life, they will be from the bad end of it anyway.

Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

I like a good charred black hot dog maybe 3 times a year.  I used to put yellow mustard and kraut on it but started noticing the kraut bothered me.  Now I put mustard and sweet relish.  I'm almost 75 and in excellent health .  Something is going to kill me but I doubt it's 3 hot dogs a year.  I'll gladly give up 105 minutes of my life for those dogs.

Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

I love hotdogs. Hebrew National are my favorite. If they kill me, they kill me. Where I live, I have a chance of getting shot everyday or pushed into the subway tracks on the way to and from work. A delicious hot dog with the works can't be as bad as all that! We take our lives in our hands everyday. If you visit New York there are hotdog carts on so many corners, as well as all the other perils you read about.

Re: Eating 'Dangerous' Foods

Recently and for the first time, I've been seeing warnings that every hot dog you eat takes 35 minutes off your life.  Have you seen this announcement lately?

@golding76

What, exactly, was the problem with eating hot dogs?   The ingedients?  The chemicals?   What?

I prefer burgers to hot dogs, but let's face it ... not all hot dogs are created equal.   Some actually have good ingredients, and some are just filled with kwap.

@pigletsmom Best answer I've seen.  I can certainly see a time ahead when I might think back on this and say "I should have eaten more hot dogs."

Here's one article about the study, but Google has plenty of other articles about it too.

Just Google "Eating hotdogs shortens life".

Hot dogs, hot dogs, hot dogs.  Why is no one discussing that the same study stated PB&J sandwiches could ADD 33 minutes or that salted peanuts, baked salmon and rice with beans could ADD between 10 and 15 minutes?
