Re: EBAY beware

[ Edited ]

If you bid on an item and you win, you get charged.  You don't get 3 days to think about it.

There's no Ebay beware going on @peggyoh .

@San Antonio Gal

I know something changed several months ago, maybe a year. I don't recall the specifics but I remember making an offer and it was accepted. When I checked on the item, I saw that it had been shipped. That surprised me because usually I had to okay the shipment.

I agree.  You're right.  What I did do was to delete my payment info so they can't immediately charge me and send the item, but a lot of these sellers only take Paypal which is what I had so off went Paypal for me.

I buy from Enay often..

if i place a bid to seller...i  a pop up stating that "if" seller acceptes my offer  it would automatic be paid by my cc. etc...on file that i use to pay with

and i have the option to delete my offer to seller...if i don't....

it will show amount to be paid  by  my cc:

shipping cost if any,plus state sales tax...and date it will be delivered by.

Then i have the option to  click  accept/send my bid  offer  to seller.  if not i delete it...if accepted by seller  i get a alert notification in my gmail messages.

They did that to me on a ring I bid on and was the only bidder.  At the close of the bidding time they used my payment info and charged me.  I tried to cancel the order within 3 hours and they did contact the seller but the seller refused to cancel.

I thought you had 3 days to cancel on an order.  Has this happened to anyone else?

@peggyoh

Three days to cancel?  Seriously?

These are individual sellers on Ebay, but I don't know of ANY retailer that allows 3 days to cancel.

Where have you actually seen this?

Suggestions ....

Before you bid on anything on ANY auction site, take the time to read the rules and guidelines.

Also, don't bid on something unless you really want it.

Good grief ....  you really need to stop and read the guidelines.

If you deleted all your payment information, Ebay won't allow you to bid on something, or buy something, unless you have updated payment method(s) on your account.

This is just plain common sense.

This isn't a "I want to think about it" situation, and it's not an "ebay beware" situation.

If you refuse to read and follow the rules, then just shop at B&M stores.  You have no excuse for annoying sellers and other bidders because you don't know what you're doing.

JMO, of course.

Thanks, I'll have to look into this. Maybe it's a setting I need to change.

Serious question here .....  where have you ever bid on something and had three days to think about your winning auction?

I've never heard of this, and am curious where you have previously experienced this.

Please respond.

An offer and a bid are two different things. If you place a bid on a item, it is automatically applied. Someone else can come along after you and place a higher bid that knocks you out unless you place another bid. If you were the only bidder and you don't retract that bid before the auction ends, you automatically win and you will be able to see that you are the winner. There is no need for the seller to notify you.
If you make an offer on an item, seller can accept or decline that offer.
