If I ever get married, this is going to be my reception:

five foot party sub sandwich

meat & cheese platter

veggie platter

mac salad

hamburgers & hotdogs

chips

punch

Oh, and it won't be a "gift grab" either! *lol*   NO GIFTS!

I wouldn't ask for $, either.

and it's going to be held at a local park, too!

All I would want is a nice, simple ceremony, and reception.

Re: Dutch Treat Reception ???

WOW I learn something new everyday. I never heard of a Dutch treat reception. I had to look it up! I thought having a cash bar at weddings was bad but this takes the cake so to speak!

I am not sure how we would feel about going to one of these and be expected to also give a money gift.

I had to look it up, too. Most people said this is tacky. Go to a cheap pizza place instead, or have them delivered.  Guests should not pay.

Re: Dutch Treat Reception ???

When I was explaining the whole concept to my husband this morning and that you better have cash or a credit card in your pocket to pay for the bill you'd be getting at the end of the meal, the first words out of his mouth "and give a gift too?"

I said to him, I don't know but a gift wouldn't even be a consideration because we wouldn't be going.  If we want to eat out at some fancy place that we have to pay for ourselves, we'll be picking the place!

Sombebody thought of it, already.

The Divorce Fund Registry.  Add that to the wedding registry option.

Re: Dutch Treat Reception ???

You must check out the site Honeyfund dot com. Crowdsourcing for your honeymoon most often, but could be for your house down payment and many other Wants.

I discovered this site last year when a young family member was planning a wedding. They are well educated and very well employed in NYC. Come from affluent families who no doubt paid for the reception and multiple parties prior to the wedding.. Planned a honeymoon to exotic foreign locations. Entered their Wish List here. I thought it was super tacky. Asked DS's 24 year old GF if she has ever heard of this. She had not.

Guess what? almost every item on their honeymoon list was picked up- paid!

Likely looking at both DSs getting married within the next 2-3 years. Reconsidering if this is tacky or the 21st century way of doing things.

I went old school and sent the family member generous gifts for shower and wedding. Got back one hand written note for both, which is probably more than most here have received.

No I was never invited to one and I would never even dream of having a go Dutch wedding, but if I cared about the couple and would like to attend their wedding, I'd pay for my own dinner.

Re: Dutch Treat Reception ???

I was telling my sister about this unusual reception since her son is getting married and my husband overheard.  He asked what I thought were a very appropriate series of questions:  "Does the restaurant give out separate checks?  How does the restaurant guard against fraud and protect itself?"  And, it is true.  When you have a large group at a restaurant, they usually add on a set gratuity.  Also, separate checks are not offered.  Interesting to contemplate.  Oh, he said he would not go.  He wants us to chose our own dining options as to the date and place.
