To my knowledge those are the only athletes that the country sent. I watched last night, and lucky me, got to see the Dutch speed skaters. There was a set of twins, and the parents were watching on the side, plain but such excited couple, it was so cute. One of them won the gold, the second one bronze, and in between one of the other Dutchmen. In general these athletes come more from the farm lands, and grew up knowing no better than to be a good skater. They did so well, that even I, as a bystander could tell, and it was great fun.

My nephew, half Dutch, called my sister and told her how proud he was of what the country had produced. The first 2 nights, also winning big time, Putin stopped by at their Heineken Beer Tent, where they all relax. Bet last night he must have done that too, given how great a performance they gave. It was touchy, for those like myself.

The King and Queen were there as well, although never in the spotlight, they were mixed in, dressed like the others, but the King himself is an avid speedskater himself. The Queen, from Argentinia, is super enthusiastic and enjoyed herself too.

Hope you don't mind my starting this thread. My homeland is far away, and this brought me for a little time, a bit closer...

I did not see the skaters. Really haven't been watching much of the coverage. NBC's coverage is too choppy for my liking. I appreciate the background you gave on the twins and the King and Queen. It is always nice when someone can personalize an event and/or participants. Congratulations to The Netherlands.

they sent 41 athletes this year.
