I just met a good friend for a quick coffee, I didn't see her at all during the holidays because she's bee shuttling between her sons' homes and her daughter's home. Would you believe her 3 kids all had kids of their own withing weeks of each other? That's three new grandchildren since Halloween. But the "real news" was that she and her live-in love of the past 20 years are getting married on Valentine's Day and she was dying to show off her engagment ring. She bought the wedding bands with her too. Gorgeous is an understatement. She's very theatrical and artistic so I expected something "different". To make a long story short, this couple has lots of love but very little cash and they don't believe in credit cards. Her ring set costs under $250 (hsn 961-927) and is a real jaw dropper. It truly looks like it costs thousands. Huge, huge london blue topaz with clear, crips sparkly gem quality pave set amethysts. It came with two thin, pave amethyst bands that she intends to use as her wedding bands. I could not take my eyes off it. She's seamstress and plans to make her own wedding gown. Something long, slinky, satiny "old Hollywoodish" in a color that matches either the blue topaz or the amethysts. I just had to tell SOMEONE because (of course) she has no intentions sharing the details about the ring with anyone except me and her mother. I've wanted another wedding set, with colored stones (sapphire or emerald), for quite some time but I never in a million years thought about silver and semi precious stones. Never. That's another reason why I can't mention this to anyone I know. I might follow suit, or 26th anniversary is in June.
