Driving while on cellphones!

Earlier this evening my husband and I were driving along. We came to an intersection. We did not have a stop sign. The people coming the other way did.

As we were going through the intersection, some woman came barreling through the stop sign towards us! My husband very quickly turned the opposite way and slammed on the breaks and just missed the curb. My heart was pounding and I was swearing (as my husband said like a NYC cabbie!). Of course the woman kept going.

I don't swear normally but I was mad because as plain as day I saw the woman's face (she looked to be in her 30s), and I could see her hand holding a cellphone to her ear! I could also see what looked to be children in the back seat. She was not paying attention because she was blabbing on the phone.

I am so fed up with people on phones everywhere! Especially while driving!

To add- when we first got our car (the one we were driving today) some idiot hit us in a parking lot while we were sitting in our car eating ice cream and that person (a young man) was also on his cellphone!

Thank GOD we were not hurt in either incident. (In the incident with the guy I stayed in the car while my husband exchanged info and talked to the cop, because I knew I would have yelled and flipped out on that guy for being on a cellphone).

Please, if anyone on here is talking while driving, use a headset (if you don't have a newer car in that the phone hooks up to the speaker system).

Re: Driving while on cellphones!

Let's give credit to the seniors out there on their phones.

I was driving down a 5 lane highway and a little white haired woman with her female companion sped by me in her tiny Honda. She was so little she could barely see over the steering wheel as she whizzed by me and I have a lead foot and a big SUV!

Gabbing on her phone she flew thru not one but two red traffic lights.

Musta been late for the canasta tournament.

Oh yes its all ages, not just limited to youth or middle age. I see people driving while on cellphones every time we go out.

It's illegal here but you see it happening all of the time anyway. Just passing a law doesn't stop misbehavior. People assume they won't have an accident or get caught, so they chatter/text away. I honestly think some people are addicted to their phones.

Re: Driving while on cellphones!

Yesterday my mother told me that her health aide answered her cell phone while driving my mother to the doctor. I hit the ceiling. Mom said the aide told her caller she couldn't talk and hung up immediatey but I said "Not good enough!" I told my mother to make it very clear that there would be absolutely no talking, answering, or looking at the phone while driving and that if it happens again I will speak to the aide. What is wrong with people?

It is pretty much illegal I thought everywhere but people do it..I have seen cops included.

The OP has issues against cell phones anyway..Her and hubby are always bashing cell phones/users lol.

While she was totally wrong driving and talkin..I give her props for taking the step up to technology.

Re: Driving while on cellphones!

I wish these things were programmed to deactivate and just take a message when the car is moving. I have heard there is an app to do so, but you can shut an app off, or never download it. It would be better if it was programmed in the phone directly. I guess it senses speed or something, at least that is what I thought I heard.

I'd like to see some statistics about accidents, death rates, and the use of electronic equipment in cars. I wonder if they are out there, and just what they would say about how this 'new' phenomenon is affecting our safety on the roads.

Re: Driving while on cellphones!

When we are in the car our phones automatically come through the car's onstar. So it is totally hands free and no different than having a conversation with someone in the car.
