I would think that those using their left foot for the brake would be prevented from hitting the gas when they meant to hit the brake since the gas would be depressed with the right foot only. The practice of using the right foot for both the gas and brake came about when all cars were standard and the left foot was needed for the clutch. Now, with automatics, it seems safer to use one foot, the right, for gas and the left foot for the brake. Why have one foot doing nothing when it could be put to better use?

Hi! I do see that, but it's still scary!
I haven't driven a standard for many years, but I am pretty sure I never did that. I can see what you're saying, though, especially if you are stopped on the top of a hill.

That was always my way of thinking!

I gas and brake with only one foot. My right.

(unless of course one is handicapped and must use the left foot or hand devices)
This for me, too. DH taught me to drive and said I was less likely to hit the wrong pedal if I just used the same foot for both. It's worked so far!
