I had facebook years ago and left for many of the reasons posted here. I have no social media accounts except for qvc.

@Kachina624 agree with your post. Was reading your comments going yep yep oh yeah definitely that 😉
Many times I've set myself up for a fall by replying to some idiot on a topic that I thought was benign. It's even happened on sports articles or college conference pages. Jeez o Pete. Ppl can get real ugly with that.
Everyones remarks here have been interesting, enlightening. I feel like as a grown @ss adult, I am capable of taking control of my social media involvement and not be victimized by it. Thanks for suggestions and insights everybody.

A friend signed me up, but I now enjoy it. Mostly for me it's about the special interest groups which can be quite helpful. I don't post that much in my feed anymore. Occasionally a picture or some funny. I'll ocassionally share a news article I find interesting.
I guess since I don't Like or comment on many of my Friends' posts, I no longer see most of them unless, for some reason, I go to their page. That may be the reason I'm not seeing so many political posts this year. Or maybe I've just stopped following the ones that I found the most annoying. But, there is, or used to be, an option to just Snooze someone for 30 days which is what I would use at this point if they started showing up in my feed.
I have Unfollowed several people and also have my settings so they don't see my posts either. I have them grouped in different audiences and can change my audience any time I post by just clicking on that little globe or whatever audience is showing, but mostly it just stays on the Friends except...... Audience.
@Susan345 I use Social Fixer. Same thing about Facebook always trying to break them. They do have a User Support page in case you're having issues or to report when those pesky ads show up. They've had a really hard time with the Sponsored posts. And now I'm getting posts that are like the Sponsored posts but don't have Sponsored Post shown. I assume that's part of Facebook trying to defeat these programs.
They also have a page for their User Support Members to discuss any other computer-type problems not specific to Social Fixer whether it be a Facebook issue, computer issue, browser issue, etc.

I refuse to watch our news as well. It's a toxic environment, which I can do without.

We could benefit with a screen time limit for adults. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, news shows and TV are not a good steady diet. Too many rabbit holes.

I have FB. It has allowed me to get to "know" cousins that are an entire generation older than me. I follow lots of local pages, some hobby pages, a few recipe pages. I had to unfollow a few friends until the election passes.

I am on Facebook and use it to keep up with family and friends that I don't get to see often!
I don't post anything political, nor do I pay any attention to Political posts. I don't get into religion, or race, or anything controversial.
My primary reason for having it is to interact with old friends, co workers and family, purely social!!!
If I come across Political or anything controversial, I just keep going-I never comment!!!
I check my feed, usually once or twice a day, but I am not addicted to it!! I glance and move along..
Same with Instagram..

I stepped away from Facebook at least 5 years ago and was immediately grateful I made the move.
Completely agree with what you say about the negativity. I realized what a waste of energy and time. Final thing that did it for me was a friend constantly posting pics of her hair blowouts. Such a waste of time.
@rockygems123 I have a friend, more like acquantance, that posts EVERYTHING about her life and that of her family on facebook. One time she posted that she did not like ketchup. Another post was that she liked the look of the lines in vacuumed carpet. One time she posted individual pics of each of her 5 kids crying, next to a dog they were putting down. I don't understand the need to put everything out there. I stopped commenting and looking at her stuff and it popped up less and less. I guess Facebook will show you more of the stuff that you slowing scroll through or comment on. But I agree that it is a waste of time and energy and I have to stop myself.

We have made the decision for this Thanksgiving there will be no political conversation at all. We are all on the same page but one nephew who lives a couple of hours away. I have not seen him since Thanksgiving 2019 and I put my foot down this year I want to lay eyes on him and his family. Covid was one thing but 2020 and 2021 are way in the past. If he disagrees with all of us politically that is his right I just want to wrap my arms around my nephew and his soon to be married son.
As far as Facebook I was on it for two weeks about 15 years ago then shut that thing down just 2 weeks later. Same with Tik Tok or whatever it is called.
