True but he didn't have to humiliate the couple in front of everyone. And the guy was actually articulate and respectful. Dr Phil told him verbatim what to say (tell her you're never going to see her again…) then threw him out.

It was the way he did it. He was so pompous about it.
IMO, It needed to be done. The girl overdosed on heroin 16 times, someone had to step up and be a jerk to her.
He didn't have to make the two stand up and face each other and make each other break down. It's a technique that uses humiliation and in a very public way.
It was a bit dramatic but I think it showed he wasn't playing around. Unfortunately, I have seen heroin's destruction and the addict will do whatever or whoever it takes to remain an addict.

Although, they did place most of the blame on the boyfriend. Which to me, is denial on the parents part. The daughter is responsible for her own addiction.

I don't think he quite threw him out. Phil told him he would get him help. I hope it works. The guy did seem remorseful.
