Dr. Oz spoke a few minutes ago about the importance of close relationships on health and longevity on the Today Show. (wow, he really IS all over the place
). He said he refuses to operate (heart surgery) on someone who doesn't bring a loved one to the surgery. He continued by saying he finds it hard to believe that a person, in all their years on this planet, would not have someone who cares enough about them to bring to the surgery.
Personally, I am coming across a significant number of people, some really nice people, who are very much alone, due to many different circumstances. I, myself, am finding a dwindling number of people around me who I am truly close to. I thought this was rather close-minded of Dr. Oz and maybe a little out of touch with reality. Wouldn't it be a shame to refuse a person in such a situation life-saving heart surgery?
. . . . Which brings me to my questions . . . .
Do you think loneliness and being alone are a bigger problem than we think?
Do you ever feel really "alone" even though you have people around you?
