Dr. Oz spoke a few minutes ago about the importance of close relationships on health and longevity on the Today Show. (wow, he really IS all over the place {#emotions_dlg.blink}). He said he refuses to operate (heart surgery) on someone who doesn't bring a loved one to the surgery. He continued by saying he finds it hard to believe that a person, in all their years on this planet, would not have someone who cares enough about them to bring to the surgery.

Personally, I am coming across a significant number of people, some really nice people, who are very much alone, due to many different circumstances. I, myself, am finding a dwindling number of people around me who I am truly close to. I thought this was rather close-minded of Dr. Oz and maybe a little out of touch with reality. Wouldn't it be a shame to refuse a person in such a situation life-saving heart surgery?

. . . . Which brings me to my questions . . . .

Do you think loneliness and being alone are a bigger problem than we think?

Do you ever feel really "alone" even though you have people around you?
