I'm not a fan of Dr. Oz but I think this was a dog and pony show put on so Congressional Reps could score points. Oz may give lousy advice but he's not the problem. Congress needs do address the abuses of big pharmaceutical and supplement companies, not a television host. He's an easy target and he's not the problem.

I'm not going to hold my breath for that to happen.

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I always felt he claimed to know too much about too many things. I went to his web site one time to try and read something he talked about on the show. I got in on the tail end of the topic. Wow...for weeks I got tons And tons of spam. From loans to Viagra. It was awful. Never again. After dealing with breast cancer I can tell you no Dr can know it all. If the specialize in a fied that's what they know not all the stuff he talks about, Money is all he cares about how can he gives his heart patience the care they need if he is on tv all the time?

I'm not minimizing what Dr. Oz has done, but Congress needs to address real problems we have like jobs, global warming, dangerous tar sands shipments by rail, voting rights, gun violence, immigration reform....

Both Oz and pharms are equally part of the problem. Oz has become one of the most visible and influential tv personalities in recent years. He is LOVED by women and almost deified. When he talks about a green coffee bean extract being a "miracle" supplement for weight loss and millions of people run out to buy the supplement, that's being misleading and highly irresponsible. I have to wonder if he isn't being paid by all these supplement companies to pr their products.

I think a lot of people follow him as tho they are getting a free medical opinion without paying a copay.

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I haven't watched Dr OZ for years? But I did see him get a flu shot one time when I did watch. Anyway I don't know all of what wrong doings he has said but I do know hes a cardiologist/surgeon in real life and has saved many many lives of people with heart problems. So I cant smear him for those reasons.

He got a flu shot on his program, but when he was asked if his kids were getting them, he said no, neither his wife nor his kids. He went on to say he let her make the decisions on things like that.

Is she an MD, does anyone know? He looked like a real wimp doing that.

I think it was only the specific H1N1 shot he and his family didn't get. Not the usual flu shot.

Re: Dr Oz in front of Congress

I never get to watch his show because I'm at work at that time. Today I did watch since I'm on vacation. It was interesting but of course, I would do my own research and ask my own dr or my relative who's a PA about questions I have. Then I'd make my own decision concerning my own health.

I chose not to get the flu shot this year because I've only had the flu 2x in my life and I didn't want to purposely introduce something into my body that I might not need. As I get older, I may revise that decision. There's a dr in my area who believes he got guillain-barre syndrome from getting the flu shot. He's an older gentleman.
