The dog has had the same name all these seasons. All of a sudden, people are suspecting the worst.

Highclere Castle where the series is filmed is the ancestral home of Lord Carnavron. Lord Carnavron was the financial backer of Howard Carter who was the archeologist who discovered the Tomb of Tutakanhom in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. perhaps the reason for naming the dog after a Egyptian goddess?

I'm sure that's right. It's really unfortunate that coincidentally her name is now associated with the terror group. I think the producers got jittery about it perhaps. I read before the season started that the name was thought to be a problem now.

ETA: My dd and I read the book about Lord Carnavon's wife, Lady Almena. VERY interesting.

Isis didn't die because of her name.

She died because she got cancer.

And Hugh Bonneville said it was NOT in reaction to any world events.

Hi, MJ! I was just going to post that. From what I read not long ago, Fellowes said the name was chosen as an "inside joke" of sorts unrelated to anything going on today and it was (obviously) before the acronym became onerous. I saw the funny comment from Hugh Bonneville about the recent speculation.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

You have no evidence anyone on the show thought that. But I can sure believe numerous people demanded a name change because they're just a little off.

Next, they'll be demanding all classes in Egyptology be banned.

LOL! What are you talking about?? It has nothing to do with Egyptology and everything to do with not wanting a character on the show named after a terrorist group. Stop being silly.

Once again, you can't follow what has been said. No wonder you think the dog's name is about a terrorist group.

Noel, respectfully, I think that you are the one who doesn't get what has been said.

She doesn't think the dog's name is about a terrorist group. Nobody on this thread does. The dog was named most likely afer the Egyption goddess. Everyone agrees on that.

However, some of us read before this seasons Downton Abbey even started that the producers were going to write the dog off the show because of her unfortunate name. Ridiculous and disappointing to be sure.

However, I believe it was you who jumped to the conclusion that "people were demanding" things due to the dogs name. Nowhere that I saw has that been reported. What I did read was that the producers of the program were concerned and that is why they were writing the dog off the show. And in fact, it has come to pass as was reported before the program began this year...the dog is being written out.
