Dolphins are so intelligent...

A group of dolphins apparently came to the aid of a British long-distance swimmer just in the nick of time.

Adam Walker was on a 16-mile swim in the choppy waters of New Zealand's Cook Strait on April 22 when he spotted a great white shark beneath him, Yahoo! News reports. A pod of 10 dolphins quickly surrounded him and stayed by his side until the shark swam off.

Walker posted images of his guardian dolphins on Facebook a day after the rigorous swim. "I'd like to think they were protecting me and guiding me home!!!" he wrote of his brief time with the dolphins.

I would have to say that they are extremely intelligent and I wish we (as a global nation) would treat them with respect and not pollute their home...

Re: Dolphins are so intelligent...

There are a ton of stories of dolphins protecting and saving humans. They are very smart. Next to the elephant they are my favorite animal. They always look like they are smiling too.

The Greeks have stories of dolphins helping drowning sailors and protecting them from sharks and guiding them in stormy waters.

There was a family swimming in New Zealand and suddenly they began to be herded by a pod of Dolphins and at first they were scared. Every time they tried to get away from the dolphins they would herd them back into the circle. They kept pushing all 4 of the people together by circling them. The guy spotted a 10 ft shark and realized that is why the dolphins were doing this. The dolphins circled them for 40 minutes until the shark lost interest and then the dolphins allowed the people to swim to shore.

Dolphins may be smart...but staying in the water with a shark approaching...that was a stupid human trick!

I do agree, sharks are one of my biggest fears. I grew up in the 70's and Jaws and my brothers horseplay while in the ocean did a number on me. Humans are much more dangerous to sharks than sharks are to humans though.
