Doggie Urinary Tract Infection

After a second round of antibiotics my dog is still having a problem with this. Now the vet said she needs x rays, un ultrasound and more extensive blood testing to find the right antibiotic. I scheduled the day at the hospital for her, but now I'm wondering why they don't just do the extensive blood testing to put her on the right antibiotic and see if it clears up. If it does not clear up with the correct medication then get the x-rays and ultrasound. I know they are looking for kidney stones with those two tests, but if the correct antibiotic works it seems unnecessary.

I'm going to call and discuss this with her tomorrow. Anyone had any experience with this?
