Today, I was walking my dog and this man is throwing a ball down the middle of the street to his black lab. This is not the first time I have seen him doing it. People drive down this street at a high speed. They do not look for dogs on the street. I asked him if he was scarred that his dog would get hit by a car---his answer: I watch very carefully. Sometimes I think people are just plain stupid. How does he know if a car is turning from the main street and going down his street? I think I should call animal control and report him. Should I tell them this stupid man is throwing a ball down the middle of the street and he thinks he is a psychic???

There is a dog park about 1/2 mile away and a park about three blocks from his house. Why doesn't he take his dog to a safe place. Why do people like this own animals? It just really upsets me when people are so irresponsible with their pets. I wanted to throw a ball down the middle of the street for him and see if he could fetch without being hit by a car.

Any suggestions?

We have this happen in our neighborhood a lot. In fact, we have have a leash law, and some people still.let their dogs run free through the neighborhood, despite the danger to the dog running down the street, other dogs whom the loose dog might approach, and people who are startled by a large dog racing toward them.

In our town when we see this happening, the number to call is for the police. They come and if they see the people in action, they stop and talk to them. This usually solves the problem...with that offender.

That sure is frustrating! You can see how dangerous his actions are why can't he? I agree in checking out the city animal ordinance re: loose animals and see if the owner can't be made to see the error of his ways. You could always point out that if that dog EVER gets hit by a car it will be the owners fault for teaching his dog he is supposed to play in the street. That dog will never make the connection that he should not be in the street because even if master is no where to be seen he has been taught he will be okay because that is where master plays with him To that dog the street is a good and happy place. My best wishes are going out to that dog to stay safe.

Now.......I must say that I live in the middle of no place.....but still......I have invisible fencing, and I do mean INVISABLE fencing, not some other brand, and I always have had it fixed to where my little Savannah (now at rainbow bridge) was never allowed in an area where motorized vehicles would ever be in her space.......If she was to ever be outside that space, she had a bandanna on, and was safe, as it meant she was either in the vehicle, or going toward a lake to get on a boat.......She actually new the rules, and never "tried" the rules, so she was always safe......I was made her protector......and that is what I did, up to and until her rainbow crossing, after 14.5 years..........{#emotions_dlg.wub}

I attended a community meeting years ago at which a man stood up and ranted about how fast drivers go in his area, and that he lost a good hunting dog due to that. I stood up to say that there is a leash law in this county, and if he hadn't allowed his dog to roam free, his dog would not have been killed. You are right, some people are stupid!

We have a leash law in both the city and county, and I tried to rescue a black and tan walker hound, but he was people shy..........Well, I found the owner......just down the road a bit, as he lost a black and tan that he wanted back very badly, and it was a litter mate to the one I was trying to train and make a better dog, and he said IF you have the crazy one, I do not want it....I want the other one......so I knew it was his dog, and the litter mate escaped to find this one that I was trying to rescue......AND there was nothing I could do........as he was the chief deputy of our local sheriff dept, and they county I live in is still using the "gas chamber", even though I am trying to get investigators down here to check it out, as it was outlawed over 3 years ago..........{#emotions_dlg.angry}
