Dog Food Question.......Any Recommendations?

I just came back from the pet store to learn that they have discontinued Veterinarians Formula dog chow. This is what Greta ate at the rescue shelter and we continued with it. She is a long coat German Shephard and is the pickiest shepard that we have had to date.

I try to keep up with all the articles on dog food but there seems to be quite a bit of contradiction printed as to what is "good" and "bad" for our dogs. I always am concerned about weight gain because of the "hip" issue with shepards and especially with Greta because she is not a fan of steps. I purchased a small bag of Back to Basics. I read the labels and check to see if it is made in the USA. I ask the store mgr. for his favorites (which I have done before and have been pleased with the advice. This is a small chain so it is a small staff and they seem to know the products.) Before I purchase a 40lb bag I was hoping to get some other recommendations from large breed dog owners.

Any help will be most appreciated. Thank you from both Greta and I.
