The parallels between the 1932 kidnapping of the Lindburgh baby and the mother of Savannah Guthrie arre really amazing.  The Lindbergh case ended very sadly.  To this day, there are questions about the guilt of the man convicted and executed for committing the crime.

I hope the Guthrie case ends more happily.  It's very concerning.

Lindbergh kidnapping

The "Lindbergh baby" refers to Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., the 20-month-old son of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, who was kidnapped from his crib in Hopewell, New Jersey, on March 1, 1932, and later found murdered. The crime, dubbed the "crime of the century," led to a massive investigation, a ransom payment, and the eventual conviction and execution of Bruno Richard Hauptmann for the crime, though questions about the case persist.

The kidnapping and investigation
  • The crime:
On the night of March 1, 1932, the baby was taken from his second-floor nursery, leaving behind a ransom note and a homemade ladder.

  • The ransom:
The kidnappers demanded $50,000, which the Lindberghs paid through intermediaries, but the baby was not returned.

  • The discovery:
The child's body was found partially buried in the woods near the home on May 12, 1932, about ten weeks after the abduction.

  • The suspect:
Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a German immigrant, was arrested in 1934 after handwriting analysis linked him to the ransom notes and evidence from his home was connected to the crime.

The trial and aftermath
  • Conviction: Hauptmann was convicted of first-degree murder and executed in 1936.

  • Lingering questions: Despite the conviction, some questions about the handling of the case and Hauptmann's guilt have remained, with some theories suggesting the crime was an inside job or that evidence was mishandled.

I'm not seeing similarities at this point, @Kachina624. 🤷‍♀️

Re: Does this Sound Familiar?

The only commonality I feel between any of these is that they are known about nationally. All three are very different crimes.

  • @tansy. I was thinking in terms of two helpless victims taken from their beds and families waiting to hear the fate of their loved ones.  Both cases involve family members of celebrities of the time the crime occured.

I think the present case has gotten so much publicity.  It may have gotten too hot for the kidnappers to handle.  I just hope the lady is okay.

If this was your mother or my mother the story wouldn't even be a blip on the radar.

Re: Does this Sound Familiar?

I only see the ransom note and the intense scrutiny of Patsy Ramsey and Burke Ramsey. The ransom was not paid so there is no similarity there.

Since Nancy has not been found and last I read the ransom note is not reliable
no similarity there either.

Re: Does this Sound Familiar?

I don't know. It occurred to me that Mrs. Guthrie may not have survived at the very time it happened. Either a medical event happened or her life was immediately intentionally taken. That her body was taken from the house to hide evidence or to fake a kidnapping.
I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Does this Sound Familiar?

I have read that Savannah and her mother both have a deep faith in God.  While I know and hope her mother may still be alive....if she isn't, she will be where no harm or pain will ever come to her again. I'm hoping she is found alive.
