Here are the topics. There is a sample lesson plan attached in the info. Nothing nefarious. Kids can chose a historical figure, celebrity, athlete or family ancestor.
We provide lesson plans ranging in topic from the U.S. Civil War to the 1940 U.S. Census to help you integrate historical records into lesson plans, teach students how to manage research projects, approach critical thinking and gain the communication skills needed in life.

I think it's impossible to make a judgement about using Ancestry until we've read in detail what educational programs their site has.

I see nothing wrong with it, the list looks interesting.

I'd rather they do this in class than some things I have learned they use in school to teach kids now. Some I am horrified about, this, I would have no problem with, but I know nothing of any worth about my ancestors.
What happened to just reading, writing and arithmatic. Hows their SAT's going since the pandemic. Can they do those, just to get along in the world.
I would think Ancestry, would be for older students as an elective course leading to an eventual employent area. ?????

Thank you for this information, I read it all including the lesson plan. It's just like assignments I bet we all had to do in school using modern technology.
I have no issues with the students using the site
but to avoid any issues I would prefer a students personal ancestors not be used. As a parent I would also like to know:
-Does the student had to set up an account? (which I would be opposed to)
-Is there a school account they can use.?
-Who covers the cost?
-Do parents have to sign off on usage
I'm sure others will have lots of questions like the age of the students. This is getting interesting as it is different than my understanding of the original info.
Thanks again

Since this was developed by Ancestry for use in classrooms, I think it could be an interesting way to discover historical types of information. When I went on Ancestry I was fascinated to see the actual WWII draft card my father signed. I don't see it being used as a way to find skeletons in any child's closet.

I'm not seeing anything questionable here.

Nope. I assume it costs money. If so, it seems like a for-profit waste of time. An attempt to scoop up precious education dollars.
And even if it happens to be free I'd say nope. There's a LOT to learn in history class. There's no time to waste on stuff like Ancestry.com if you are going to be ready for college. We need to make our schools more comprehensive and competitive, not easier.
