Re: Does anyone use Trifexis

I agree Frontline has been around a long time and seems safe. For a long time, I used Heartguard and Frontline and then I would switch to Advantage. Frontline and Advantage stopped working on my Sheltie so I tried the Comfortis and it worked. I still use Heartguard and Comofortis for her but I give it about 5 days apart. My Vet pointed out to me that Heartguard had a history of adverse reactions in Collies. Knowing that Shelties have Collie in them that made me leary too but she has been fine so I am keeping her on that regime. My other Sheltie came to me at 8 weeks already on Trifexis and when I first gave it to her I watched her closely. She is funny because she acts like nothing is different. Trifexis does not even make her sleepy. I did learn though to give them an entire can of dog food with these drugs.

Re: Does anyone use Trifexis

I returned the 6-month supply of Trifexis to the vet (5 months left). They were very nice and said they know it doesn't work well for all dogs and gave me a full refund. They had something else to recommend to me but have temporarily lost the paper I wrote it on, think it was Nexguard? Anyway, the pup on nothing for now.

It's a nice idea to get a recommendation from a vet, but they usually recommend whatever they are selling so I feel nervous about the motivation there. Are they recommending it because they really think it is safest or because it's a moneymaker?

I ran across this write-up about Frontline and Frontline Plus. The active ingredient in Frontline is fipronil which has been licensed since 1996, and more than 50 other products contain it (what products I don't know, could be ant poison, right?) Anyway, the site below looks interesting and informative.

Re: Does anyone use Trifexis

I totally trust my vet. I have known her personally for 20 years. She would not push a product on me for money. As the Frontline article points out it can have side effects. It all does and is all poison to kill Fleas. We have to pick what works best for our pups.
