Sorry, I'm not cognizant of "humming of words" but I guess other people are. :-)

No have no idea what you mean. Sorry.
What I do notice is how many people start talking by saying "Look" or "Listen" . That really annoys me. It is especially prevalent on News programs and the guests on them.

I guess we're living in a fast-paced era. Well, driving-wise, for sure. Everyone (almost) rushing around, here and there. Feel sorry for the very young youngsters being dumped into the back seats, and rushing off. I (and my friends) had a peaceful childhood. No rushing around. Slow, Sunday rides and excursions. What a difference.

My husband and his sister have this problem, and it gets on my last nerve. I always feel like an interpreter. Wish I had $1 for every time in the last 42 years I've told my husband to slow down and say each word.

This makes me think of my reaction to one of the JTV hosts. I'm seldom so bothered by a host on any network or show to the point of needing to change the channel, but with this person I just couldn't listen. One day, when I switched to JTV and she was on-air I heard her say she's also an auctioneer.... I have a feeling that's the speech pattern that was off-putting to me.
As far as the type of speech @on the bay describes... I don't know exactly what's being referenced there. I wonder if someone could provide a link to a video that has an example?

you could listen to Mary from in the kitchen with Mary. I think she does it , sometimes katie who didn't use to but now seems to-to me anyway, and I like Katie as a host![]()
I hope she just keeps speaking naturally instead of more "sing-song". Thats the best I can explain it![]()

this made me laugh. I'm thinking if I read my post and wasn't me, I might not know what I'm talking about either lol!
And I know what you mean about "like...or "listen..."-another irritating speech pattern and I'm sure I have some too!

Yes I have noticed it.
I think it is because they are so used to typing that speaking is actually too slow for them now so maybe this is their way of speeding things up?
I noticed people don't want to write anymore either lol
They just want to type. ![]()

There is a pronunciation style that I do notice, and wonder where or how it started. Hard to explain... it involves the "-ing" suffix.
For some reason, it's often pronounced "een" instead of "ing." The "g" is dropped. (This isn't the same as the "g" dropped when we say something like runnin', by the way. In what I'm referencing, "running" would be "runneen.")
An example might be the word "heartbreaking." Some would pronounce it "heartbreakeen" yet if they took the suffix separately they'd never pronounce the word "king" as "keen." I hear announcers on tv shows say, "comeen up" (suffix pronounced like the word "mean") instead of "coming up." It's especially strange hearing so many public speakers doing this.
That's a long explanation for a silly observation.🙃

With a quick search I did find this discussion. They seem to think it's regional, at least to some extent:
"Q: I’m an actress who notices new things about accents. Lately, I hear people turning “ing” endings into “een.” So, “running,” “jumping,” and “playing” are pronounced RUN-een, JUMP-een, and PLAY-een... "
