Does anyone have Time Warner Cable?

I woke up yesterday morning to find that 7 of our basic channels had been removed and are now digital. Smiley Sad I wasn't happy, but after waiting on hold forever with TW I did find out that you can get an "adapter" for each TV that will allow you to get the 7 channels that were removed. There is no charge for this adapter (supposedly) for 2 years, and then you will be charged $.99 a month for each.

Today I planned on driving 45 minutes to my nearest TW office to get the adapters for my TV, but I thought I would be "ahead of the game" and call first to make sure my "local" office had the adapters available. After 20 min. on hold (again) I found out that my "local" office does not take calls; the calls go to the main headquarters, but they assured me my "local" office did have the adapters. I asked all the questions I could think of, making sure I wouldn't waste a trip to get the adapters.

I drove the 45 min. to TW and gave the lady the information she needed about my account. She told me that she kept getting "kicked out" of my account when she tried to add the adapters, as I have an "invalid" promotion for my account. She told me she has to enter the adapter information into my account so that they will work when I get home and connect them, but she told me she couldn't do it, as my account doesn't list that I have the right service to use these adapters.

I asked her why someone didn't tell me that earlier before I made the trip over, and she told me they must not have gotten into my account while I was on the phone with them. I had given them all the information they would have needed to access my account over the phone.

Long story short (sort of) I should be paying more for the services I have through TW, and because I'm not, there is no way to "enter" the information into my account to make the adapters work.

In other words, at some point in time, a TW rep. signed me up or authorized me for some time of promotion that I don't really qualify for. Now I've wasted a 75 mile round trip to TW to find out I can't get the 7 channels they removed! It goes without saying, there was NO discount when those 7 channels were removed......same monthly charge for less channels.

What do you all think of Direct TV or Dish Network? I'm thinking about switching.
