@gidgetgh wrote:I had a fairly small ant problem months after I moved into my new house. I tried the Terro baits. They seemed to work great. But.....it was a continuous cycle. The bait draws more ants, then they leave. Then they come back, quickly.
I had an exterminator come one day about my termite contract. He saw the Terro bait thing I had out in my living room. He said get rid of those. They attract more ants. They take the bait back the the rest of the ants and it actually draws more to it.
I got rid of it that day. He sprayed outside one time and I haven't been bothered since.
Same thing happen to me. I used the Terro baits and more ants came. I called an Exterminator and he told me the exact same thing about getting rid of those baits. After he sprayed I havent seen anymore. A freind had to do the same thing. Some people have good luck with Terro but I wasn't one of those people.

Yes, they work. It draws the ants to them. It is hard, but let them come to the bait and then they return to the nest where it kills all of them.
I know it is tempting to kill them so you don't have to look at them, but let them take the poison back to the nest.
We had and honest bug guy tell us that it is basically the same thing they use. I won't have anything sprayed IN my house. I have a dog and a husband that has had cancer.

An exterminator is not going to tell you to use Terro because it works and he will be missing out on getting paid for his services.
Sure the ants are drawn to the Terro. That's how it is supposed to work. It is effective in killing the whole colony, not just the ants you see in your house.
It's inexpensive too. Way less expensive than an exterminator and there are no dangerous chemicals for you to breath in.

@In-x-s - as a rule, the liquid works as you described but I have unusual ants and circumstances. These ants do not come in from outside and they are not sweet ants. I live in an apartment and they are mostly by my inside hallway door, but sometimes in my bathrooms and kitchen.
When I put the liquid out I would get unending crowds of ants and could not trace exactly where they were coming from. they would like disappear into the woodwork. Someone told me they are concrete or cement ants. I have them all year, even in the winter!
But the Terro spray has been working better for me and seems to keep them away longer.

I tried Terro one time; no luck, in fact I think the ants liked it. What works for us is citrus. I bought a citrus spray and is mainly made from oranges and the ants disappeared; I sprayed around the backsplash and haven't needed it in a while so don't recall the name but you may find it if you look on Amazon. It also repelled roaches, those I can't tolerate in my house ever!

We had a problem with ants some years ago where they were coming up into our apartment from the downstairs apartment.
We could see where they were coming up through a crack in the floor in an area of our kitchen.
We bought a couple of the Terro traps and we put them around the area where they were coming in.
If I recall it probably took about a week, and then that was it. They stopped coming and we haven't had any problems with ants since then.

Does this Terro stuff work outside? Trying to get rid of them and they are relentless. Can someone post a picture of this terro stuff that works so well? I've tried granule ant poison and black flag spray with moderate results.

@SaveTheTurtles I have always used the indoor baits, which are plastic and hold syrup. The ants take the syrup back to the next with them.
It also comes in an outside product. I have never used it, but it should be just as effective.

I like the indoor Terro but I tried the outdoor Terro with no success. My husband buys some kind of spray he mixes in a garden sprayer and uses it on the outside all around. I try to avoid sprays but in this case, I had to give in and have him use it. Have no idea what it is though, sorry! We use the Raid Ant and Roach if there are only a few here and there and that does work as well.

@Carmie I will also add to your comment, not only is Terro effective with no dangerous chemicals to breathe in, it also doesn't seep into the ground and ground water like chemicals sprayed outside. Terro is also safe around pets.
