Re: Does QVC ""get"" who their customers are?

Some of those corny sales pitches may appeal to people who feel isolated or bored and wish they were invited to last-minute soirees or that they had a house in the Hamptons or a private jet! Maybe buying something with such a sales pitch adds a little touch of ""fantasy glamour"" to an otherwise unexciting life?

When I take my private jet to Hawaii I always wear my denim and company pull up pants and dyed to match tunic.

QVC has been successful for many years. They get their customers.

The same posters complain about QVC merchandise, prices, shipping, hosts, sales pitches and customer service. There are tons of channels to watch and many other places to shop. Why bother to watch QVC?

They do seem to think everyone watching has pages and pages of names to buy for. Just buy these and cross five off your list! Over the years I've pared down shopping considerably so I don't need that lengthy list-it's a few names I can keep in my head.

Honestly if people think the prices at QVC are so reasonable, they aren't bothering to look anywhere else either because they don't care or they aren't that computer savvy and don't know how to search quickly.

I've been looking for a certain pair of shoes. QVC carries them as does just about everywhere else including on-line only stores. Those shoes are $63.00 at QVC after I add s/h. QVC is offering a 4% rebate on Mr. Rebates.

I can get them elsewhere for a total of $38.49. And the rebate amount with Mr. Rebates is 8%.

This is the norm. Very, very rarely is anything cheaper on QVC if it's sold in retail.

Yesterday Philosophy and Tarte both had 30% off at their websites. Why would you order that stuff from Q?

I ordere my fair share from QVC but it's items you can't find elsewhere because the pricing here just isn't competitive.

I think QVC "gets" who its customers are. They are the people buying into these sa;es presentations and spending money.

Over and over again, people on these boards complain about QVC's prices, shipping, products, hosts, etc., but while a dozen people are complaining here, 50,000 people are buying $500 blenders and vacuum cleaners. I would say QVC knows darn well where to focus its marketing.

I agree with all of this but then again many customers don't shop around. They cater to impulse buyers IMO. People watch their favorites and are taken in by the spiel and buy things they don't even need let alone shop for a better price. For instance David's kitchen shows are watched by many, they like him. So he sells those Sistema cups and people watch that guy stirring soup around and buy them. QVC sells most things in multiples. So why would an older couple buy 4 of those? I have seen those in TJ Maxx individually and if I wanted to heat my soup in one, I'd buy it for about $6 bucks not pay $24.

I flip on QVC while commercials are running on football games on Sunday and am amazed at some of the junk they sell. How many people wake up in the morning and think oh, I need to buy a set of straws and watch QVC to see if they are selling them? IMPULSE BUYING. And pay $7 to ship them to you? I wonder how many people have buyers remorse after they spend all that money. I have never seen QVC sell on thing that I casn't find cheaper elsewhere locally or online with a coupon, free shipping or rebates. There is no value in QVC for me.

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.

All advertising is an attempt to sell the fantasy. Look at car, perfume, even the little blue pill is trying to sell an image and fantasy. That's the purpose of salespeople and ads. QVC is nothing more than a 24 hour commercial geared to sell a variety of merchandise. Any good salesperson gets their customer to buy into the story they are telling. The QVC hosts excel at that as so many consider them authorities or friends.

I enjoy Qvcs ""pretend concerts"" because I hate crowds. I liked Train and Barry Maniloe. Kindle changed his name lol
