It seems lately I've been inundated with requests for donations by non-profits by phone. Does anyone know if they're exempt from the Do Not Call list?
It's not that I don't do charitable contributions but some call every couple weeks and won't easily take no for an answer. I'm retired and money is as tight for me as with everyone else. I would like to freely determine the charities I support and the amount I can give. It seems that once you donate to one you receive requests from every other charity in existence - they obviously share lists. At times I have to get rude to have them understand I must say no at this time.
Yesterday I got a call from one that I would normally not support asking for a $25 pledge. When told him I couldn't afford that he asked if I could give $10. I was on my way out and finally agreed, which I certainly regret. Then someone else came on the phone and asked if I were really going to honor this pledge and when would it be sent. I've really had enough.
