Some time in December, they had a "Children's Jeopardy" for a week or two .... and I did pretty good on that one! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Since the contestants are pretested, the producers or whomever chooses the categories and questions, can rig it to favor or disfavor a player. Maybe, to be fair, they are chosen by a computer.

This is absolutely NOT true. Everything on the show is very honest and strictly according to the rules. (I was on Jeopardy! in 1992.) Producers don't know which of 12-15 contestants will be chosen to play a round (They tape five shows in a day.). All of the questions are chosen way in advance so that the board can be programmed. Even Alex, who knows what the questions/answers will be, is not allowed to speak to any of the contestants before the shows. (Did you notice that, at the close of the show, the winning contestant is always on the far right--furthest away from Alex? That is to avoid any accusation of favoritism or cheating.)

One reason it is so very hard to win is that contestants must wait until Alex is finished reading the clue before they can ring in. There is a light bar around the board which lights up when he is finished. So, your timing must be great, or you will be locked out if you press your buzzer too soon. I know for a fact that, as the game goes on, you tend to press the buzzer out of reflex action, and hope that you have the right answer. The good winners are those who keep their cool, and don't jump on the buzzer out of panic. Contestants are all very bright--they had to be to get on the show. Most of them fail by being too quick on the buzzer.

Everyone connected with the show was very friendly and professional. There was never any hint of favoritism or "fixing" for any contestant.

When I was in college, I tried out for the "Jeopardy College Tournament." I made it as far as the regional preliminary round held at a Milwaukee TV station. I was no match for my opponents from Northwestern and DePaul. But I did get a t-shirt.

I started to say you'd be good at the game because you are so good at the daily trivia game. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} (Max)

Thanks Max, but you are a good trivia player also. I enjoy that quiz because it is all just for fun. And insomniac keeps us all on our toes.

I think I was still asleep when I played this morning.

Thanks for your post!

It must have been very exciting for you to have the opportunity to be on Jeopardy. I enjoyed reading about your experience. A lot of it I didn't know.

No I couldn't win on that show. But I know some people who could. I really don't understand why we even need to know half of that stuff, except to try to impress others.

Re: Do you think you could win on the game show Jeopardy?

I like the show and it helps keep my brain "sharp" (I have ALZ in my family). There are some shows where I don't know the "questions" and others, I get quite a few correct, like when my son said - "you should go on the show Ma!"

I would be too nervous to be on the show. I noticed the Final Jeopardy answers are getting more tricky. I do believe they've dumbed the content down, but it also has made the show more fun to watch. More folks who aren't "nerds" . There used to be tons of Math categories and they've cut down on those.

Oh, nooooooo! Even when I was younger and fairly smart, I was (and still am) 'way too slow'! Jeopardy is 'way too fast' for me! Frustrating, in fact. Although I do learn a lot watching it.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
