Do you think there's less Type A personalities?

[ Edited ]

I think with each new generation, parents are raising their kids so differently that type A's are not as prevalent as they once were.  Managers I speak to in various walks of life, no longer have that verve, that special something that motivates them and I miss that.  I think it takes great enthusiasm, vigor and energy to move mountains......to assess and take charge as well as having great speaking skills so that you know without a doubt where they stand.

In your place of employment do you find type A's or instead just mediocre, lackluster management.

At Sam's Club today while shopping, the young manager I met definitely fell into the mediocre/lackluster category.

I wasn't aware that a true Type A personality was necessarily an asset. It depends upon how one deals with it.

But no, I don't think that people today are more mediocre. I think that line of thought is right in step with "Get off my lawn" sentiments.

I meet people of my age who seem rather mellow -- to be kind -- and people who are in their 20s who seem quite confident and assured and work hard.

Definition of the Type A- a personality type characterized by ambition, high energy, and competitiveness, and thought to be susceptible to stress and heart disease.  In my work experience, Type A managers are the worse.

'All I know' is that just looking around (here) there are a lot of very fast-moving, rushing around folks in all age groups.  Rushing here, rushing there.  Mostly drivers. In constant motion.   Keep in mind I don't know about in the work force.  Employees in stores seem very laid back, more or less.  Even when there are long lines waiting to purchase items.  Well, all they can do is to be courteous to each customer, in a pleasant way.  ............. I'm also guessing that now-a-days, employers (managers) cannot 'rush' their slower moving employees around.  The days of the verbally abusive manager/boss are long gone, more or less.   I'll be interested in reading the other replies, just to see what's happening out there............

I thought that personality type was something one was born with.  All the training in the world won't change it.

Right or wrong, I've always thought that some (underline 'some') Type A's are in a hurry, impatient, and try to 'rush' others around.  They seem to be in a race against time.   Of course, there are some very nice, ambitious and successful Type A's, I'm sure.  It's all a matter of degree, and how they treat others.

Yes, it could be in their genes..........the relative who is always in motion, straightening out problems, rushing around here and there, helping others, etc. Being in charge of various events, making sure that everything is done as best as possible. Yes, a definite Type A.  Those types usually get everyone in motion, delegating their responsibilities. ............. Yes, they are very motivational, and an asset to, say, a family or a company/corporation.

Who said being a Type A was necessary for success?  In my opinion, being a Type A doesn't serve a person well in most situations.  I don't know if that personality trait is prevalent or not or if it ever was.  I do know it's interesting but doesn't mean a whole lot in real life.
