Re: Do you remember?

[ Edited ]

I didn't live in a small town when in elementary school.  We lived in Brooklyn so I couldn't run around with friends on the streets in the evening.

However I do remember walking to school in the second grade by myself.  I crossed Ocean Ave. (which is a big busy avenue) went several blocks past Brooklyn College until I got to school (PS 152).

Today I see parents waiting at the bus stop (not for just the youngest ones) in our very quiet & safe subdivision just steps away from their nice homes.....so different from when I was a child!

Do you remember doing things as a child that you would not let your children or grandchildren do now?  I remember in the summer playing outside with my friends and not having to come in until it was almost dark.  No worries about any danger from anyone.  Going trick or treat with friends and could eat what we were given. We did live in a small town, not a large city.

@gramgrandkids1   ALL OF THE ABOVE  you mentioned.

My girl friend and I when about 11 years old would go off on biking excursings for hours in places that today would be considered dangerous... two little girls alone...never a thought about what COULD HAPPEN...  we always were playing alone in the woods next to our homes too.... never thought about abduction back then....

I do not remember growing up in my neighborhood ever being scared or thinking about BAD PEOPLE... just was not the mindset in the 1960's.
