Re: Do you read the entire thread or just the OP?

THANKS for all your replies. They validate what I was already feeling and thinking. I appreciate it. It's nice to know I'm not the only one SMH or getting frustrated at some of the things that go on.

Re: Do you read the entire thread or just the OP?

I rarely read an entire thread--too tedious. I especially dislike when a thread gets way off track. Forget it.

I just saw something that reminds me of one more thing about why I make sure I read the prior responses before I post. Sometimes I'm interested in the subject and would like to comment, but when I read the posts, see who is posting on the thread and start seeing certain types of comments, I realize that I need to just stay out of it. I have very strong opinions about some things some of the time, and it just wouldn't be a good idea to express how I feel, especially if I'm tempted to respond to a particular poster. So I leave it alone. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

I don't understand this.

Why not just ask politely? Post politely? It is possible without losing your cool unless you feel your POV is the only POV.

I'm asking these questions because I really do want to know. Do you ever get angry or frustrated with the kinds of things people post here? Do you have strong opinions about certain things? I don't lose my cool just because someone has a different point of view... that's their right. I have been known to change my mind on occasion when someone makes a valid argument for their point of view. I've learned a lot here, but I have also had a different kind of education since I came on the boards that I never expected to get at my age.

When a thread is very obviously a group of people who totally agree with everything each other says, and they leave no room for other opinions without being snarky and worse, that's when I leave it alone. I can recognize that by reading the posts. Sometimes it's political, sometimes it's about current events. I have no problem with people who have differing opinions from mine, but I've said for a long time, there are ways to say things and express your opinion without being insulting to other posters, and also to have a modicum of overall respect in what you post. And believe me, with some groups here it would be laughable to them for me to "ask politely" and it does no good to "post politely", because if you disagree with them, you will get your "comeuppance" in no uncertain terms. So I leave it alone.

Of course, there have been times when I just can't keep my mouth shut, so I do get in the middle of the fray, but I do it knowing what will happen... I'm just determined to voice my opinion because I want it to be heard.

Re: Do you read the entire thread or just the OP?

I try to read the OP and entire thread. Sometimes it's hard to follow with a lot of words bolded, partial sentences that need a code book to decipher, symbols, off topic banter between posters, etc. I'll either skip those replies or the thread altogether.

I dont agree with you.

You can easily post an opinion that is contrary to what is popular in a thread. Skip over those who are deliberately goading you into a reply. You don't have to answer everyone's posts. IMO you're reading too much into things. Most posters don't even read who wrote what and they don't even care. Any 'discussion' is really for our own benefit, not to accomplish anything productive.

That's fine if you disagree. The only additional thing I will say is I don't post where there is hatred being spewed out all over the place. There is a thread now, as you probably know, that has some comments in it that are inexcusable. And yes, it makes me very angry to see people talking about how bad the hatred is in this country, while it's coming out of their own mouths at the same time. Hypocrisy at its finest... That's the education I was talking about - and I don't like it.

Re: Do you read the entire thread or just the OP?

i try my best to but sometimes i miss an update, unless the update is bolded.

i don't get upset or angry with other posters for their opinions either. no one is ever going to agree on everything.

I know the thread you're referring to. People are grieving. People are angry. Think about what you might say if you were impacted. Probably things that are very similar if not identical to what is being expressed now.

I think you missed the point of that thread. There is hate towards LEO. That is truth, not hypocrisy.

Re: Do you read the entire thread or just the OP?

If the thread is a question about how we feel about something or asking for advice/opinions re: a problem/situation, I just answer the question. Then, when I have time, as I stated before, I'll start to read at the bottom (most recent reply) and read posts from recent to not so recent.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
