If there's only a few replies, I might read the replies. If the OP is too long and/or has a hard to read font, I don't bother. Sometimes I post just based on the title of the thread.

Sometimes I'm interested in the subject and would like to comment, but when I read the posts, see who is posting on the thread and start seeing certain types of comments, I realize that I need to just stay out of it. I have very strong opinions about some things some of the time, and it just wouldn't be a good idea to express how I feel, especially if I'm tempted to respond to a particular poster. So I leave it alone.
^This.

I came close, but it poofed before I had a chance, and now the second one is gone. Sometimes someone says something and I just cannot keep my mouth shut - maybe I need to tape my fingers together!

I think some people don't even read beyond the actual title of the thread. I've started threads myself, where the title is a question, and then I've clarified in the OP, but people reply based purely on the title.
It also bugs me when someone answers a question with exactly what the OP wants to know, then others post the same info and OP thanks only one of them.

ITA... it seems that one can answer a question as you say, then someone else whom the OP apparently knows well says the same thing, and the OP acknowledges them, but not you. But I usually just let it roll off...

I almost always read all the replies first. There are exceptions of course.

And isn't it great when the thread is 6 months to a year old and the issue has been resolved and has an update, but people are still giving advice. Even when you post that the issue is resolved they still don't read that either.

I don't understand this.
Why not just ask politely? Post politely? It is possible without losing your cool unless you feel your POV is the only POV.
