Re: Do you proofread your post before submitting it?

I'm an English teacher by trade, so I always proofread, but even then sometimes I miss things and see them later. I immediately edit and correct. My biggest nemisis is the auto correct that tries to second guess me and inserts a word I didn't even want in there. Those are the ones I usually miss until I proofread and I'm saying, "WHAT???????"

LOL~!  Love it...

I have a vintage IBM keyboard (love it btw) and if I hit it too lightly I'll not get a letter or two.  I try to catch it but I'm usually writing so fast that I give my entry a quick cursory look and correct what I can..... but if writing a post becomes a test in grammar, spelling  and syntax then I'm just not jumping on board that train.... Woman Wink

Yes, but I miss some. I have Glaucoma in both eyes and early MD in one eye. I'll keep trying my best.

Re: Do you proofread your post before submitting it?

I always proofread, edit, re-edit, and do it again.  I was an English major and spent most of my college years reading and writing and studying critical thinking.  Most people don't understand how important this really is.

In my 40-year career as an executive assistant at the CEO level, you better believe that the letters, memos, etc., that I wrote for my boss's signature had to be perfect.  No two ways about it.  I've seen other people' business writing over the years, and some of it was atrocious.  It makes me wonder where in the world these people went to school.

Even though blogs are a casual way of communicating, my posts have to be clear and concise and say what I want and intend to say.  I was trained that way, so there's no other option for me.  I don't take myself seriously, but I do take my writing seriously.

Wonder how many people remember actually using actual proofreader's marks in real-time back in the day?  Yep...been there, done that.

Of course, many of the following are tongue-in-cheek, but the giggle was the same.

Yup. I was a journalist. But, while I certainly did my share of proofreading, we always said that writing and proofreading were very different abilities, and many good writers were terrible proofreaders!

@Brooklynny  I, too, was an assistant/executive secretary to a senior partner in a law firm for 25 years.  I proofread the letters I typed for my boss, but if it was a legal document there would be two proofreaders looking at the document.  The language had to be absolutely correct and spot on, and this was before Word Perfect..  In my mind I am still that secretary to this day.

Re: Do you proofread your post before submitting it?

I am my own worst proofreader.  If I don't catch a typo when I make it or feel that I have put something in a post perfectly, I probably won't see it proofreading it.  I am very guilty of doing this and sorry to say that I am not very good at it!  I need to make this a resolution for 2017.  Woman Frustrated
