I know many people who don't have a desktop or a laptop ---- they do everything on their phones.

Yes, one of my cousins up in WA doesn't have a computer & she & her husband are only in their early 70's. He used a computer at work before he retired & enjoyed it & wanted one for at home, but she said "no", so they don't have one. She's the boss, I guess!
She called me on the phone this morning & wondered why she never hears from me! I told her if they had a computer, we could keep in better touch!
They also don't have cable TV, just whatever TV signal over the air they can get with an antenna. I think she doesn't want to get cable, because he loves to watch sports on TV & she can't have him enjoying something!

I had posted earlier about a man my dad shared a room with at the nursing home He was in his 90's and would spend hours on his computer mostly playing games. It made me rethink how I feel about older people learning the computer. He couldn't walk but was never sitting out in the hallway for hours like so many others do in homes. I had the feeling he would have been lost without that computer. He also still had quite a keen mind for a man his age. Just an observance that made me stop and think.....gee, I'm glad I know how to do this....If I ever have to go into a nursing home...I think having a computer and knowing how to use it could really help me have more quality of life. You can go anywhere and see or hear about anything on a computer. It would, I believe, add to the quality of ones life.

The internet existed long before a version* of it was made public and the concept of the internet was mind-blowing when it was slowly unveiled. There are many people who have passed, long ago, who used the "internet", long before dial up noises billowed in the village.
