I'm not sure what the OP means by ""chain letter"".

I do pass on funny things once in a blue moon but is has to be one that makes me literally guffaw or have a special ""inside"" meaning to me and someone else.

You've never heard of chain letters? Well, you're one of the lucky ones!

They used to just be snail mail letter form, then they went to email form.

You get this email that says to send it along to ten other people, who will in turn send it to ten more people, etc. It tells you that if you send it along, at some point, you will have some sort of windfall - such a monetary one or something. If you don't send it along, something bad might happen to you. Clearly, it's stupid but there have been people in the past who bought into this.

One time I got a religious chain letter. It told me that if I didn't send it along it described in hideous detail all the horrible things that would happen to me before I ended up, of course, in heII. It was truly disturbing. Fortunately, most were not like that. Mostly they were just annoying.

I stopped after it cost me $50 to mail one chain letter. Would have been a lot cheaper without the chain.
