Not only do I put it back; I also try to grab a stray one as I walk in a store.
The exception is when a worker comes by while I'm loading my trunk, and if they offer to take it with the others they're rounding up; I let them.
PS Most do around here because they have a slot in the cart and you must put a quarter in it to unlock the cart. Then you must bring it back to the line of carts to get your quarter back.
Do they do this in your neck of the woods??

Just got back from a local supermarket... carts were everywhere. I rarely see anyone return their cart. In fact just last week, someone next to my car shoved their cart behind our car when I turned the engine on. I said nothing to them as she looked like she was 😡😡all ready to argue.
My husband returns our cart but when I used to shop alone, I did because it's just common courtesy..

It used to bother me that you couldn't park in about 50% of the parking spots. There would be a cart in many of the spots. I could not believe that there were easily 40+ carts just scattered around the parking lot.
I am glad that I am now retired. I can go earlier in the day, so there are less carts just scattered around the parking lot. And there is cart corral in every row of the parking lot. It isn't that far of a walk.
To be fair in my opinion Costco is horrible about having the corrals to return your shopping cart. I tend to park on the end of the lots because there are just too many people trying to park close, but I always scope out where the return corral is so that I can walk 1/2 a mile to return my cart. @AngelPuppy1 wrote:Yes - always! I absolutely hate when carts are left randomly all over parking lots! I once went to back out of my spot and it was a very cold and windy day and all of a sudden a cart came flying out of no where and hit the back side panel of my car! Scared me to death, plus put a big scratch all down the side!
Yesterday I had to do some shopping in a dollar store and it was very cold and windy, and I had to park really far away from the store, but I trotted that cart back in the store --- and it had wonky wheels on it, too!
Have you ever taken walks and seen carts discarded all over the place? I have seen this a lot! I was talking to a store manager about this and he said they occasionally have taken a truck out and gone looking for them as these carts are not cheap!
Growing up I remember this being a problem and you would see these trucks collecting carts.
Nowadays, at least where I live the carts can't leave the shopping centers. I don't know how it works exactly, but I think there is some sort of chip in the wheel of the carts, and if you try to leave the shopping center the wheels lock. You see the signs up as well telling you that this will happen so be forewarned.

When I shop using a cart or basket, I always put it back wherever it belongs.
Why? Because I am not a barbarian. Unless you are ill or disabled, I have no excuse to give you for not putting back your cart. But I guess I am willing to listen to some if you have them.
Bonus question If you answered yes: Do you also occasionally put back another person's cart because you saw it sitting around abandoned in the parking lot? Yup, me too. I knew I liked you.
I DO return wandering carts, especially when there is the chance that they will be blown into someone else's car.
I park as far away from the entry to stores, mostly to force myself to walk, and in some of the stores and malls where I shop there are no return lanes. In that case I sometimes leave baskets "anchored" to something if I don't secure them in a formal return site.

If I wheel the cart to my car, then I'll return it to the corral. But since I usually have few groceries, I often leave the cart outside, right in front of the store, and carry the bag(s) to my car.
As far as part 2, if I see a cart in a precarious position, I'll escort it to the corral. But that isn't usually a problem as store personnel are usually on top of such things.

The only grocery store in my area that does that would be Aldi's. I rarely go into the store, because they just don't carry the food items that I care for.

Same here..a lot of times in our small town..someone will ask" can I take that cart?"
When my DS was young( maybe 9 or 10)..My store was in a strip mall and the anchor store was a huge supermarket..At that time we had to do the quarter thing.
My genius DS would go to the far end of the parking lot..
He used to find" shopping caret that people were to lazy to bring back..He used to end up with like $5 in quarters..holiday time even more!
Up here Aldi's is the only one that you need a quarter.

Yes, always. And if I didn't, I sure wouldn't admit it here.
And if I run across an abandoned cart I return that also. And I have been known to take carts back for people who have just finished putting their groceries in their car.
