Sure, folks can go to hell in a handbasket any day of the week they desire. I feel we need to care for our planet - SHE serves us and we get our sustenance from her. I wouldn't be that ungratefu to just trash her and the life upon her just because we can. I am not for extremists doing what they want to impose ridiculous legislation though. I think we can all be caretakeers wherever we are and that is our duty and legacy for future generations and life here.
We can boast about life here in the most beautiful of ways. Other planets/moons, well thus far, they don't look too appealing to me.

Disagree! How could huminty suffer by saving our planet? Wouldn't it be the other way around - we will suffer if we don't save the planet!

We are reaching the point where the earth will not recover on its own. The earth has lost thousands of species and there is no way to bring them back. New species would take millions of years and that's IF conditions are right. They aren't.
America itself is suffering from fracking-caused earthquake swarms, and yet we let them continue.
I don't know if people just aren't aware enough or knowledgeable enough to realize what's happening, but so many are willing to go along with it all and deny the obvious effects.

I think most people know but just don't want to do things it will take to turn it around, if we even can at this point. They don't care because they won't be here when the shiat hits the fan. What they don't remember (or perhaps don't care??) is that thei great great grandchildren, etc WILL be here to suffer the consequences.

Well, it's not as if this guy didn't have some kind of personal gain by opposing any efforts to address planatary crises. The main reason people reject anything to do with global warming/climate change is it's "inconvenient" to acknowledge the actual truth here. And those who are heavily invested in certain fuels, etc. let their greed get in the way. However, hope springs eternal. The struggle continues.

Sorry. I didn't see you post before I wrote mine. I too said it was "inconvenient."

totally agree. Just look at the lightbulb thread. It is all about me.me.mememememe and an "inconvenience" as others have pointed out that LEDs are fantastic and you don't need to use mercury bulbs, but no. the "choice" is gone.....oh woe is me.

My question would be; How far are you willing to be inconvenienced? How much are you willing to give up? It is not always about being selfish, for some there is only so much they can do.

I agree with your last sentence, @CrazyDaisy
I know this, because as someone who is less able to do some physical things that I did before (such as being able to walk longer distances), I have to use labor-saving devices such as my car more often.
For example, I used to be able to walk about a mile to the train station. I can no longer walk long distances so I have to use my car. (Although I drive only about 4000 miles a year, so my personal total car usage is low.)
I think, though, it's about numbers and volume and the total effect. It's perhaps one of those "tipping point" scenarios where once we reach a certain level, it (whatever "it" is) will become the norm, or at least there will be an improvement.

I have lived by the following saying all my adult life, and even late teens.
"Man was born to live, not to prepare for life"!
Think the above gives you a clue which answer I chose.
