How much do you know about "vault apps"?  Would you be suspicious of a calculator app?

There are a plethora of apps available for both iPhones and Android phones that have innocent names but hide texts, photos, files, etc. and some of the text specific innocent sounding apps destroy the text once it has been read leaving no trace on the sender's or receiver's phones.

In addition to the apps there are more than enough easily understood instructions on youtube to teach anyone capable of turning the phone on to be able to completely hide apps (along with what they do).

Search "apps for secret texting" on your favorite search engine or even "innocent sounding apps that hide text" or simply "vault apps".  Or, go to itunes or google's playstore and search for hide text.  You may be surprised by what you find.

So a quick search I did on vault apps seem to tell me they are for hiding things, mostly kids hiding what they are doing with/on the phone from their parents?

Another reason kids don't need phones. When they are old enough to have a job and pay for a smart phone is when they get one. 

In our house, till then, he got a grandma flip phone, with no ability to text or get internet. It was for safety not for fun.

I heard about them and there several apps that disclose them, honestly I can't be bothered.   But who are those secret apps texting and communicating with?

@chrystaltree, they are used most by kids for texting and sexting and to hide apps from their parents.  There have been several local news waring to parents type stories about the apps and their use by teens and pre-teens.

They are used to hide illegal activity, drug dealing for example. They are used by cheaters for obvious reasons.

Some are used for legitimate security reasons to hide files, banking information/apps and such.
