Happy New to YOU! I too went to grief counseling & was asked NOT to come back b/c I couldn't CRY! Can you believe that? I wasn't holding back tears, I just couldn't shed anymore, if you know what I mean? Hope you were able to finish yours.

A different kind of journal. I meet with a monthly coffee group. We keep individual combo gratitude/prayer journals. Can't say I write in it each day but I do review it often and read past journals. Ecouraging. Keeps me focused on important things.

Not anymore. I journaled from the mid-80’s until early 2004. The last journal entries were of my dad’s last colon cancer surgery, his decline, and death.
I ran across my journals 2 years ago during one of my decluttering moves; read them one more time, and then shredded them. Most of my entries were related to work drama and many frustrations from that stage of my life. Writing helped with my frustration, but I decided I did not want or need to keep them anymore.

My 'journal' is writing poetry about events or problems in my life. I usually write early a.m. When words just keep going through my head. I keep pad by my bedside.
Does not happen every day but over the years have 'journaled/poemed!" about my childhood memories during the blitz in London, being evacuated and being reunited with my Mum 2 years later - deaths of close friends, happy events etc.
My grandson recently saw one of these journals, started to read when I grabbed it off him - as I keep these private - he asked me about them and I said they were just my memories to which he replied - please will them to me Nana they are wonderful and tell me all about you. He is a lovely young man made me feel good.
Happy New Year to All.

Thanks to one of the posters on the Among Friends forum, I started a "MEMORY JAR" of daily posts in December, 2016. Rather than writing them in longhand, I post daily happenings on Microsoft Word which works for me and ensures I will post routinely. I've checked back on many occasions and find it interesting and/or informative to note what happened on certain dates. Some days I write a lot; other days I write a little. It's been a lot of fun for the most part although there have been some sad comments too.

What a beautiful thing! You have a young man in your life who realizes the value of your “story” — your memories!
And what a unique and amazing story that must be!
I would like to know more about this time in history as it was experienced firsthand! Also, it must have been wondrous being reunited with your mother!
Your post today about keeping your memories in a journal... and reading when you feel the occasion is right... I think this is amazing. Love that you feel the ”worth” of these memories and interactions!
Wish I had the diligence to do this!

Thanks for your post. The "Journal" becomes almost automatic after you've done it for a while. Sometimes I write very late at night, midnight or after. Other times a few days later I remember something I should have added and using Word I can go back and insert a statement(s). When thinking about something that happened say six months ago, it's fun to be able to go back and read posts made on various dates.
P.S.: @Puddles had mentioned a "Memory Jar" last year. I think she has one too. That's who got me started. ![]()

@LTT1 Thank you for your kind words. No not wondrous being reunited with Mum I just wanted to stay where I was! who was this strange lady wanting to take me back to London we were in Wales.
However back my sister and I went and my Mum became the most important person in my life - but I never forgot my evacuee Mum either and my love for Wales persists.

@AnikaBrodie I'm so happy that you have continued your Memory Jar. I like the idea of a daily journal on the computer. However, DH and I enjoy opening our Memory Jar on December 31 and reading all the happenings of the year.....and what a year 2017 has been for us.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
