Do You Have/Had A Child In College?

My son is going off to college in a couple of weeks, and the campus is less than a hundred miles from where I live. I just casually mentioned that maybe I could visit him some Saturday, and he said he didn't want me to - that he was getting away from the parents. I'm wondering first, have any of you visited your child on campus; is it allowed? Secondly, is this a normal attitude for a Freshman? Should I be concerned? Thanks, Nervous Mom
