They never worked for my family. A natural solution is peppermint oil. You have to reapply and if you don't like the scent it can be a nuisance, but it works for spiders, ants, bees. I have two porches and the bees love to build nests there. I spray the perimeter in early spring to deter them. It works, but I have to reapply especially after a rain. Another thing that deters bees is to make a fake "nest" out of a paper bag. They see that and move on thinking there is already a nest in that area.
