I just looked at the picture because I really don't know what "boyfriend jeans" are!
I was so surprised to see the Hot in Hollywood lady on QVC!
She was with HSN for years.

Years ago anyone dressing like that was either very poor or a bag lady. No elegance in that time. Designers and hosts will say anything to sell sell and people love it.

Ah, yes, the grunge look.
It was very popular in the '90's.
You saw it everywhere.
Almost everyone was wearing grunge, and not just "bag ladies" and the "homeless".

It is terrible, but that's today's fashion. You have to look like a bum, it is cool to look unkept. Awful

I own this pair of Chico's boyfriend jeans. I don't know that I would call them elegant or sophisticated but I love them. The material is soft and comfy with just the right amount of stretch. The distressing is minimal...no holes! Just some well placed fraying. To each their own, eh?

Some bodies can make almost anything look elegant. The rest of us not so much. The secret is to know which category fits you.
There are some things that are not relative. Ripped jeans might or might not be lots of things but they are not elegant...

I think my daughter looks cute in her distressed jeans. Of course, she didn't wear this style back in the days when I did
Ill leave this one to her and her age group.

@chrystaltree wrote:Well, you define sophisticated and elegant your way and other's describe it their way. Elegant, I would not have used but sophisticated. Yes. Have you been to some of the triendier bars, restaurants and events lately? The world has changed (to borrow a phrase from that commercial) and people dress much more casually today. They take a casual piece like those jeans. Which are just barely distressed. They build a dressier outfit around the casual piece. You add a lacy top or chiffon top and a strappy metallic sandal and some nice jewelry and there are indeed many really nice places you can wear it to and look appropriate. Being overdressed is as much a faux pas these days as being underdressed. $59 is not a lot for a pair of jeans, especially such a veratile pair as those jeans. I own a 2 pairs of similar jeans that I bought from Old Navy about 3 years ago. Great investment! Real denim with just a touch of stretch, not overly distressed. I bought a dark wash and medium wash. I don't recall what I paid but probably $50 a pair. I wondered when QVC was going to sell a nice pair of jeans like that.
You can add your lacy top and metallic sandals all you want but you still can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
