Tam, I have a Bosch that's about 4 years old. Bought it from Sears because of the maintenance agreement factor and the installation by a licensed plumber. I'm sure the contractors used by Lowe's and Home Depot are licensed too but I was just so used to dealing with Sears that we stuck with them.

I really think each home improvement store varies by location. I've heard wonderful things about a HD and Lowes in another town, not so much for one of them here.

eta: Has it really been that long since you bought your place?? It seems like such a short time ago-

I have a Bosch stainless steel tub. It was about $500-$600 dollars 5 years ago.

I got it on the recommendation of a friend with 5 kids - she was spot on!

I know,HUH?! Seems like yesterday to me, too!!! I am amazed that you remember... I have so far only had to replace the water heater, ( knock on wood!).. I am really looking for things that will stand the test of time... I hadn't even thought of Sears..see, this is why i am so glad we have a forum like this!!!! And I gave a friend who does Sears Commercial Apliances for housing tracts and contractors and such... Thanks!

Hey Tam, when you buy your dishwasher, don't forget to buy a "piggyback" too! That's the cord that attaches to the dishwasher and goes to the outlet. You would think they come with the cord and plug but they don't. We didn't know that but fortunately the plumber was able to use the old one.

And Sears used to/probably still does have the price match feature. If another store is selling the exact same model for less, they will sell it to you for that price. My upright freezer was on sale at either HD or Lowes for $150 less and they gave it to me. They did the search on the computer too- I'd do it myself on any future purchases.

Forgo the maintenance agreement for now. You're covered under warranty; just before the warranty expires call and request a quote from Sears. I do like their agreements....what the cost of one visit would have been usually covers one year on a couple of appliances!

DD just got a Bosch. It is so quiet you can't even tell it's on. But I just got a new Maytag about the same time and I like my Maytag better. Mine is still pretty quiet and I like the way mine loads better and hers it's hard to turn it on because the way the buttons are situated.

tam, don't forget. If you or your dh is a veteran ask for the veteran discount at Lowes.

We have a new dishwasher being delivered and installed tomorrow. Our current one sprang a leak in the door a couple days ago. It is a GE Profile (15 years old) and was actually under a recall from 2007.

The recall is open-ended (meaning it never expires) and offers 2 options - a free repair OR a rebate on a new one (must be another GE). We had no problems with the dishwasher at the time of the recall, so just sat on it. The dishwasher ran perfectly the last 7 years, until a couple days ago.

We've opted to buy a new one and get the rebate rather than "fixing" a 15 year old machine. I chose a relative inexpensive GE model because it came in "bisque" - the color of my other appliances. We want replace them all down the road, but so far everything else is working fine. Since I can't decide what finish/color I want for my eventual new ones, I decided to just replace the bisque for now.

My net cost of the new one will be around $150, so I figured we can get a few more years from our bisque "suite" of appliances, then buy all new ones in a different color.

I would love to get a newer dishwasher with the stainless steel interior and all, but the old Kenmore that was here when we bought this house still works great.

One thing I appreciate about it, and would look for in a new one, is quietness.

I got a Bosch in 2005. It's great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
