I was a women of the 50's and loved the PBS special. I wanted nothing but to stay home with my kids during this time period, but unfortunely with a wife beater, I had to run and take the kids with me and we had no support group in those years.

Had I not been so busy trying to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads and avoiding him from coming after us, I would have loved to start a movement or join one for women. The support didn't come for women until much later.

It was true about the salaries and the abuse in the work place and you either gave in or quit. A single mom with three small children needed her job bad. No welfare, wasn't raised to use the system although looking back, I would have qualified. No health ins. for me or kids in the work places I had to work.

Thank God for strong women whether as a homemaker or out on your own. It made me da--- strong. Raise three very successful children on my own. I think men and women are equal. If you prefer to be a stay at home mom that is work, but remember, you are not his slave or if a man, her slave. Slavery went out with the 13th amendment as we learned in Lincoln. In the 50's, 60's etc, some, not all women were treated like a slave and if you answered back, you got beaten. Men and women should share equal duties. I have had the title MS. for years.
