Someone I know just had a baby and is registered at Buy Buy Baby. I go on line to purchase something on her registry ( there wasn't much to choose from she has gotten a lot). Anyway, I'm starting to checkout using my Discover Card, and something pops up, it didn't go through. I try again, it doesn't go through. Next thing I know I get a call from Discover Card to ask if I tried twice to make a purchase. He was calling from the fraud department, using an automated system this popped up as suspicious. I was told I could use the card because I did try to make a purchase. I asked why this happened, because it's automated I guess it can happen to anyone. I ended up not buying anything and will just send a check. It's funny, I charged my root canal, $1200, nothing from them, I try to buy $100 baby gift, I get a call!

I got this type of call when I made an online pruchase of a gift card to a restaurant where I had never used my card. The call stated that it was simply a 'security call' to ensure that it was me using the card, and that I OKed the purchase. I was glad that the credit card company was watching out for my security.

I love Discover for that very reason.
Online fraud is definitely a problem, my Citi Card just went through a replacement due to $800 plus of online fraud charges. I feel sorry for the retailers since once they ship their product to whomever and it's a fraud charge, they lose out on that sale.

A dentist bill and retail purchases are quite different. Retail is prime for thieves - not many want a root canal.

@Jordan2I'd call Discover's fraud unit and ask about their procedures. I know my bank will stop me when I try to enter any accounts including my cc if I try more than once. Then they send a temporary password to a source other than the one I had been using. That protects me and them.
Unless you come back and tell us something different, I give high marks to Discover for what happened to you - and, ironically, when I just tried to sign into the Forum QVC made me enter my password twice - my fault! I hit a wrong key and hadn't noticed so this time the glitch wasn't even their fault.

Yes that is a good sign when Discover contacts you in keeping an eye out for you.
I had a Discover card for many years thru Walmart but then opened my statement
one day and had discovered someone charged a $4000 trip to my card.
I went thru a lot of phone call discussions and had a write an extensive form in detail
and after a month or so everything was alright again but what a huge headache!

Citibank did that to me recently. Sent me a text asking if I made a couple of purchases. I DID NOT. Somebody used my card to attempt to buy something for $76 at IHOP. They not allow the purchase. How can you buy food at Ihop without the card?? They canceled the card and sent me a new one.
Discover also sent me a text about the same thing. it was for $76 that I DID charge.
They are all on the ball!

It can be ordered online and picked up later.

@Jordan2 I haven't had my Discover card for very long, but I did notice they seem to have a lot more security than other cards I went through heck setting up my online account). Every time I make a purchase over $100 they send me an email telling me, and how much it was for. They also automatically include my current FICO score on every monthly statement. I'm liking them so far!
