Thanks to all of you who replied, I really appreciate it. It seems that both DTV and Dish have the same problems with losing stations from time to time.

Guess I'll wait a while to see if we get NBC back. I don't really want to have to sign up for an extended contract which is what I would have to do if I switch to Dish.

Thanks againSmile

You probably will get your channel back. DirectTV got the Weather Channel back, after an almost 3 mo. absence. I realized I didn't miss it (and their ridiculous naming of Winter Storms)...

I've had both and definitely prefer Dish. When I moved in August 2013, I had Direct. They were unable to get signal. The tech highly recommended Dish, he said they have more options on where the can "shoot" for signal. He could only "Shoot" in one direction, he said Dish could "shoot" in several. I had to wait a week without any service for direct to send a supervisor to try before they would release me from my contract without penalties. Dish tech had no problem at all with signals. My internet service is wifi with Dish too. I am very satisfied with Dish. My only tv options in my area are satellite and for internet it is satellite or an air card. I've had the air card and all I can say for it is, slightly better than dial up.

Don't you have cable? We are in the country (but in a development) and when we had a satellite tv dish it would go out in bad weather. I THINK it all depends on your area, because others I know who have satellite tv (in other areas) have no issues. But we did so we have cable and our cable is local so if we ever have to call we deal with local people and get fast service.

It depends on where your house is situated. When I had Dish the service would go out whenever it would even drizzle however my experience with Directv is completely opposite.

Yep. Same with my sister.

We had DirectTV and loved it. We never had Dish. We switched to TWC because DirectTV kept raising prices and got too expensive.

What is a Joey? I'm really out of it. I've never heard of that. FWIW I cannot stand those stupid commercials for the Hopper!

If you get a good signal, Dish is better. We have both in the central east coast. Directv has LOUSY programming for a high price. I tell ya, it's mostly shopping channels and tons and tons of sports channels we don't want to watch! If we go down a level, the few watchable stations disappear. They have poor options. Very poor.

OTOH, the Dish signal is poor here and they should not be selling it here at all.

We are out in the sticks and there is no cable, no hard-wired internet. I have to drive to the library (a tiny country one) to download anything substantial like an audiobook. Verizon fios, cable cos etc only wires where there are a lot of homes close together.

I've had dish for 8 years. It does what I need it to do. It goes out a couple times a year for a couple hours. A bad thunderstorm or major snow storm make it go out. There have been a couple threats if losing a local channel, but it hasn't happened. I have no issues.

We have had Dish for 15 years. Can't get cable where we are. No real problems with it. I'd recommend it.
