For me, it was algebra and chemistry. I always managed to get good grades, but it took much sweat and tears. And I can’t blame my teachers. It was me.
When our children were growing up, they knew better than to ask me any question about math. That part was Daddy’s job.

If you include college, I will say Economics. I still don't get it. The first class we did the supply/demand graph, and it was downhill after that.
Had a great algebra teacher in the 9th grade, and for the first time I enjoyed math. She made it seem like a puzzle, finding x, and it all made sense.

Math of course, I think you have to be wired that way, to excel in that subject. I couldn't get it in school so I married a Mathematician. LOL

I'm a retired high school math teacher and I'm surprised how many posters list math as their most difficult subject. This saddens me.
I hope my former students do not feel this way.

@lulu1 I am sure you were a good teacher and that is what makes a difference. The teacher I had was a lazy, selfish, jerk

@lulu1 I am sure you were an excellent teacher. Some people just don't have any real aptitude for it. For me, math always seemed too abstract and unreal.
I could do simple arithmetic, but the higher realm of theoretical math just didn't jive for me.
I'm sure lots of English teachers just despair, too, of students who don't "get" writing and reading.
I do think we inherit our talents and there is some environmental influence involved as well.
Take pride in your chosen career. I'm certain you helped many, many students learn the subject.

Math. But it wasn't difficult for me, I just hated it. I hated the classes and I hated the homework, which I always left to the very last minute. I studied enough to get a B- because I wasn't going risk a C on my report card. I couldn't wait until senior year when I didn't have to take a math class. There was no way I was going to take calculus as my advisor advised. I loved the sciences but I hated chemistry....because I hated the formulas.

I am another who never understood or could do Math. It was like a mental block. I still don’t like it.

My most difficult subject in high school? Trigonometry. I don't think I mastered it. I passed it, but I hated it, found it to be unrelated to my life, and basically saw no reason for it. Math itself was not difficult for me, though. Just this particular form of math.
