Did anyone else see Captain Phillips and think

That the pirates were the stupidest pirates ever created??? They actually believed and let the US NAVY attach a tow line from the navy destroyer to the lifeboat they were in when the navy told them their ride would be smoother that way because they would ride in the destroyer's wake. They also never picked up why Captain Phillips mentioned the seat number he was sitting in in the lifeboat when the navy people insisted on speaking to him personally to be sure he was physically OK. they also never questioned why the Navy delivered a bright neon orange shirt to the lifeboat and insisted that Phillips be allowed to put it on. Really you can't fix stupid.

Yes, they were incredibly stupid and thank God they were. It was the only thing that enabled Capt. Phillips to be rescued after that horrible ordeal.

They were uneducated, uncultured thugs who happened to be that stupid.

Being from a third world country, they were unsophisticated in the ways of the world.

Yes and lots of criminals are stupid. Every time I watch the news and see video shots of people robbing banks I think well duh youre on candid camera you will be caught. And they always are.

What was stupid is why the crew didn't fire shots into the wooden speed boats and watch them sink into the ocean. That would have ended the conflict and saved tax payers millions of dollars, which I'm sure it cost, bringing the Navy into it along with the Special Seals Unit. Stupidity all around regardless of the level of education.

ITA. They had no hope of a better life. Plus they were high, weren't they? I doubt their reasoning skills were sharp.

The lead pirate Muse, played so well in the movie by Barkhad Abdi, was only 18. He is serving time in prison. His life there is probably much, much better than the life he was used to in Somalia.

The crew members were not allowed to carry guns.

I agree with you about how guns can very effectively STOP crime as well as facilitate its commission - something the gun control crowd will never acknowledge.
