i watched quite a bit of the olympics, including the opening and closing ceremonies in their entirety. i thought that overall NBC and RUSSIA did a great job, especially considering all of the negative feedback and the worries even before the games began.

I totally agree! It was a dud.

Part of it's clearly me, but I've found the last several to be duds... Vancouver's were't great, but not this boring. England's were dreadfully boring, and this one was largely a snooze too, though the opening and closing were clearly a notch above England and, among other dreary vignettes, that dreadfully boring ode to their national health care system... Again, some of it's me, some of it's the host nation's version of things and a the biggest factor is how NBC has programmed them.
