Landlocked Colorado in the middle of the US has the highest sand dunes in North America in Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Those could be very dangerous!

@ECBG    Apparent not as people hike them and slide all over them.  If they were dangerous, the park service wouldn't allow that.  They are up to 750 ft high.

@dancingwoman    Figured you and all the Coloradoans here know all about them.  Many people may be amazed to know such dunes exist so far from the ocean.

 

They'd be equally amazed to know there's an alligator farm in the same area where temperatures are frequently below zero.  They provide a home for rescued gators and some are huge.

Yes, I've heard about them. My nephew went to college in Colorado and told me about them.

@Kachina624  and according to my surfer, skateboarder grown son, they are beautiful and fabulous.  He has sand surfed on them.  And he loves Colorado scenery. He always tells mom and dad you need to get out of the back yard 😆
