Yes, I did! What a sweet memory- I went to school with the milk mans son. They were sweet people. Seems like milk tasted better back then.

We still have an insulated milk box on our front porch. The milk delivery comes every week. We can buy all different kinds of milk, cheese, coffee creamer, butter, eggs and some bread also. It is great and we have been getting this delivery for well over thirty years.

@coco14 wrote:Until I moved, I had a milkman from Silverlake Dairy, who would deliver to my apartment - not only milk, but orange juice, bacon, eggs and cottage cheese - so convenient!
Also had a bread man - with of course bread, but also cookies and cakes -
And, because I am older, I actually remember the ice man bringing ice to my Grandmother's apartment in the Bronx. Which rhen brings back the memories of the pots and pans man, who would also sharpen knives, and the rag man -
We had the "rag man" too - an early form of recycling.

Our milk was delivered by United Farmers in glass bottles. I never forget the day my mother said it was getting too expensive and we would get Hood milk from the grocery store. I broke down in tears!! We continued with United Farmers -- thanks mom. Also Cushman's bakery came every Saturday morning followed by Mr. Goldstein who sold dry goods. He would come by every week to pick his payment until the balance was paid off. Thanks for the memories.

What a fun set of memories! Yes, I recall seeing those silver milkboxes, and there were bread trucks, ice men, vegetable and fruit sellers, coal deliveries...
Nowadays, I have a local organic farm that delivers veggies plus dariy and eggs. They drive their routes in the night while its cooler and there's no traffic, so i wake up to a lovely box in the morning. Also have a Schwan's truck that brings me frozen chicken and peas, and sometimes other things. Great service. the driver is very nice and i think he puts the food in the freezer for some of his customers.
So in a way, I guess these are the good old days!

grew up on farm and had a milkman,, a breadman. . down the road my uncle had cows and would milk the cows. guessing that was not pasteurized milk. we has steers I bellieve. we had chickens and my mom would pick the eggs. a semitruck came every week and pick up the cartons of eggs and they would go to the stores. the eggs had to be candled. I really miss all that and we would have neighbors come over and buy eggs directly from us. the breadman and milkman came in a truck and since my mom was home she would go out to the truck and buy. also had store near town that just sold meat wrapped in the paper not plastic. my dad would buy the meat there and have great conversation with the meat man. now I am living in to crowded an area.

Yes, we had a milkman. At the top of the bottle there was cream. which my dear father and I would see who got to it first, him or me. The name of the milk company escapes me at the moment, that was many, many years ago!!!

@1Snickers wrote:@jellyBEAN We had a milkman and my grandmother who lived in the others side of our duplex houses had an old ice box. The ice man brought the ice in with tongs (looked like
calipers). Our Cocker spaniel hated him because he shook those tongs at him.
I recall the ice man at the gate peeking to see if Butch was around. Then he ran with the ice to grandmama's house. I opened the door and let Butch outside and he was waiting for that man!
That pup was pulling on his pants leg as he ran out the gate.
Butch got a milk bone from me!
@1Snickers ...Wow, we had a dog named Butch too while growing up.

Grew up in northern Vermont and yes we had the silver box by the door. I remember hearing the milkman in the morning dropping our milk off. I remember we got Hood milk and my friends in the neighborhood got Borden. I hated Borden because the cow was named Elsie...and my name is Elise. Took alot of abuse on that one. lol

We had a milkman. I grew up on Long Island and I don't know if all the other neighbors had one, but we did.
I remember once during a hurricane, we were waiting for my father to come home (he was a musician) and we heard a car outside and thought it was him, but it was the milkman.
Then we got Dairy Barn! Oh how I wish we had those today. Nothing like a drive through for milk and eggs. LOL
